HEY GUISE.
So, I’m as mad as you are about this Protect IP Act, but I feel like there’s a couple things that people are forgetting. Yes, it’s terribly written. Yes, it comes with good intentions. Yes, it goes against the first amendment, but the thing is:
It’s just a bill.
Even if this bill passes, it can’t go immediately into effect. We’ll still have time to repeal it.
This whole “calling representatives” thing that tumblr is getting people to do is helping a lot more than you guys probably realize.
If you can convince these representatives that this bill isn’t a good idea, it might not make it to the senate. The votes of these representatives are going to determine how close it gets to becoming a law.
Bills go to the House of Representatives, then the senate, then the president to get signed. It isn’t a law until he does, and he doesn’t have to. However, if 2/3 of congress votes against the veto, the bill can still become a law.
Everything I know about politics, I learned from Schoolhouse Rock.
Still confused? Just watch this:

A bill has to go through a lot before it becomes a law. It’s not easy, and to be perfectly honest, I highly doubt it’s going to make it halfway.
